The House That Social Media Built

The House That Social Media Built

Social Media Allows General Public to Flip a Shoreline Home

A realtor’s clever idea to better market a home for sale in Old Saybrook is allowing social media users to voice their opinions on what the house should look like – from paint colors to floor plans to tile choices.

William Raveis Associate, Nicole White of the Madison office has created “The House that Social Media Built” Facebook page after persuading the home’s owner, Michael Riccio, owner of Rebuilt Homes in Southington, to buy into the concept. Riccio remodels homes and has agreed to let the general public weigh in on all of the various decisions he usually makes when undertaking a project.

“This is such a great idea and it really appealed to me because of the inherent community-building. Social media users are having fun casting their votes on what elements go into the home. The live interaction truly makes this a unique project with which to be involved,” said Riccio.

Once a week, Facebook users will get the chance to vote on design options such as door knobs, chandeliers, kitchen faucets and more.  Voters will have up to three options to choose from for each element and 48 hours to cast their opinion.  The big reveal, so to speak, in terms of the winner, will be on Thursdays.

“This situation allows the consumer direct access to the house,” said White. “We have already generated such excitement with social media users and the feedback has been so positive. People love to be involved in the collaboration process whether they’re prospective home buyers or not.”

To date, Facebook users have selected the exterior color for the Dutch Colonial home on Old Boston Post Road (Revere Pewter) and are currently selecting the front door color.

In addition, voters will have the opportunity to win gift cards from many of the vendors that will be outfitting the home. White said that the entire selection process will take about 12 weeks.
